State Home Minister: Local administrations must keep sufficient stock of facial masks!

A review meeting on the progress of the various preventive activities undertaken by the local administrations in the state of Tamil Nadu was conducted at the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Headquarters yesterday (Monday, 13th April) The meeting was presided by the Tail Nadu State Home Minister S. P. Velumani.

The state Government Additional Chief Secretaries Hansraj Varma, Harmandhar Singh, Chennai Region Coronavirus Prevention Special Squad officers Rajendrakumar, Abashkumar, GCC Commissioner Prakash, Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan, Additional Commissioner Dinakaran and others participated in the meeting.

After the meeting, the minister had a session with the press.  He informed:

“It has been insisted that the payment of the March salary is dispersed for all employees and the 2-months stock of facial masks, covers and disinfectants must be kept.

Under the Greater Chennai Corporation, 3955 3-wheeled vehicles have been procured; In the mega-city administrations and city local administrations, 121 mobile vegetable markets have been set up. In town administrations, 1180 mobile vegetable retail shops have been organized for house-to-house sales.

In the Amma canteens, 102.88 Lakhs idlis, 39.13 Lakhs of mixed rice plates, and 31.45 Lakhs chapatis have been sold.

Special funds of Rs. 19.54 Crores have been allotted for the 407 Amma canteens under the Greater Chennai Corporation. Similarly, for the 247 Amma canteens in 14 city administrations, and 121 town administrations, a special fund of Rs. 11.85 Crores has been allotted. Thus, a total fund of Rs. 31.39 Crores has been allotted for the above.

It has been ordered that all the staff employed in cleaning operations must wear protective covers while on duty performing cleaning.”
