The first bench of the Madras High Court ordered the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) to grant approval for courses offered by Shanmuga Polytechnic College in Thanjavur.
AICTE had denied to grant approval to the College’s Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering course on the grounds that the College shared its facilities with Sastra deemed university. The denial was challenged by the College which claimed that sharing of facilities with nearby institutions was not prohibited by AICTE and that it was permissible under National Educational Policy (NEP) norms.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice R.K. Agrawal and Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar said, ‘The AICTE, being the approving authority, can very well inspect and ascertain as to whether the appellant is having infrastructural facilities for continuing the Diploma courses.’
