Tamil Nadu: New Emergency Act: Protest against burial will entail 3 years Jail!

The State Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced a new emergency Law. Accordingly, In case if any protest is made against the burial of the dead body (death due to coronavirus), it will entail up to 3 years; imprisonment!

A few days ago, there was a protest by a group of people against the burial of a doctor’s dead body who had died on coronavirus infection in Chennai Metro City. Subsequently, the police had to disperse them by beating with sticks. A case has been filed against the protesters.

In this situation, the state government of Tamil Nadu has enacted a New Law on emergency. It is mentioned in this law:

“It will be a crime to prevent or protest the burial of the dead bodies with death due to coronavirus infection. It will entail the punishment as per the Tamil Nadu General Health Act 1939, Section-7 with minimum imprisonment for 1 year  and the maximum imprisonment of 3 years.”
