Train tickets booked until 30th June cancelled - full refund to be given!

The administration of Indian Railways has announced that all the train tickets booked until 30th June is being cancelled and the train fare booked will be refunded in full.

With the lockdown conditions being imposed throughout the country as a preventive measure against the spreading of the raging coronavirus pandemic in 3 phased right from 25 the March to 17th May, all train transport has been cancelled. With the reservations also stopped, the same was resumed a few days ago. However, the reservations were once again stopped for all the trains from 14th April. Only goods trains are being operated based on demand.

In order to send back the migrant works in other states and their families back to their native states, Sharamic Special Trains are being operated from 1st May. Further, for the benefit of the passengers, special trains are being operated from Delhi to 15 major cities.

Meanwhile, it was announced that all the tickets booked until 30th June before and during lockdown conditions were cancelled.

In an order released by the Indian Railways Administration in this regard mentions:

“All the reserved tickets for all mails/express/passenger trains and suburban trains booked for travel until 30th June are all cancelled.

A full refund will be returned. For those who had booked online, the refund will be transferred to the respective bank savings account.

For the tickets procured through counters after 21st March, these can be surrendered in the counters within 6 months to get the refund!

The reservation for the special trains which are operated from 12th May will continue.”

Meanwhile, the Railways Public Relations Coordinator, R. T. Bajpai informed yesterday (Thursday, 14th May) that those booking online on the IRCTC website will have to furnish their destination addresses while booking. This procedure is implemented from Wednesday, 13th May.

He informed that this new procedure while booking tickets online has been added as a step to locate the passengers in case they get infected with coronavirus pandemic.

Following the detection that 12 passengers who travelled in the train being infected with coronavirus, the Railway Administration has introduced this new procedure.
