The State Government of Tamil Nadu has passed an Emergency Act to convert the residence of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa`s residence into a government memorial.
The State Government of Tamil Nadu had announced this earlier that ‘Veda Nilaiyan’, former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s residence located in Chennai Metro City Poes Garden would be converted into a memorial. This was made around 3 years ago and only today (Friday, 22nd May), an emergency Act has been passed by the government regarding this.
Accordingly, ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Doctor Jayalalithaa Memorial Endowment’ has been formed. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palanisamy will be its president and O. Pannerselvam, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, will be its vice-president!
According to the above Emergency ACT, all the movable asset items in the residence will be under the ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Doctor Jayalalithaa Memorial Endowment’. All the items in the residence, books, and jewels used by the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will be arranged and kept at the Memorial.
It is expected that this recent emergency ACT will be passed as a permanent Act in the ensuing Legislative Assembly Session.
