Financial distress has been brought about in the schools in TN due to Corona virus issue and due to lock down. It is now said that in the coming academic year the government schools of TN would be admitting 10 percent more students to overcome the financial distress.

It is important to mention that the heads of all schools have been given instructions to increase enrollment based on the feedback that thousands of parents in TN are finding it difficult to find money to fees demanded by the private schools.

As per a senior officer belonging to Directorate of School Education it is clear that instructions have been given to the head masters to give oral assurance to the parents who come seeking admission for the kids. It is known that the admissions have not yet started in the schools. Information is the schools have been directed to maintain admission register for following up the cases.

It was later brought out that many private schools have begun pestering the parents to pay the school fees immediately because the school management were finding it tough to pay salaries for their staffs.

Now, the parents who were unable to mobilise money have started approaching the government schools. The lock down situation has led to issues for many parents as some are facing salary cut and others have even lost their jobs.

Point is in TN there are about 45,000 government and government aided schools and these schools have around 67 lakhs students. An official hinted that there would be 10 percent increase in the new admissions in this academic year.

Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president of TN Teachers Association, later threw light on how Kodungaiyur based government school received atleast 50 enquiries for new admissions in the last few weeks. Fact is primary and middle schools received more enquiries than high/ higher secondary schools.
