Recently, cardiologists belonging to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital or RGGGH in Chennai tested Corona virus positive. Now, many senior doctors and post graduates belonging to the Institute of Anaesthesiology of this RGGGH have tested positive for Coronavirus issue. It is known that a majority of PG doctors were posted in Covid-19 wards of this RGGGH.
Many PG doctors and staff nurses belonging to the department of Cardiology tested Corona positive in the month of April and the department building was closed for disinfection. Few days back, 15 doctors including the heads of the department of SMCH Chennai tested Corona positive.
It has been brought to light by some sources that 2 chiefs belonging to the Institute of Anaesthesiology have tested positive and a total of 14 post graduates were also affected. Out of these 14 PGs, 4 who were earlier affected with Coronavirus infection have been affected again.
Regular exposure to Corona virus infection has resulted in the anaesthesiologists getting infected with Coronavirus infection. This was according to some doctors belonging to RGGGH. They added that the services of anaesthesiologists must be utilized only for airway management in the patients.
An official source explained how PGs belonging to anaesthesiology were posted on regular Covid-19 duty in 8hour shifts. It must be taken into account that it includes wards 205 and 206 and in these wards asymptomatic patients get received and treated.
The source added that the PGs were posted on the first floor of the Rheumatology Block and in this Coronavirus facility many sick patients get admitted. The PGs were also posted at the emergency operation theatre and at the trauma centre. Information is every day atleast 25 persons including PGs and assistant professors of the department get exposed to Coronavirus infection.
It is necessary to have atleast one third of the workforce as reserve. Shocking truth is many staff members of the department have been getting infected at the same time. The doctors belonging to anaesthesiology department must be on call duty for intubation.
A doctor belonging to RGGGH spoke about how in the times of emergencies the doctors cannot wait for the swab results.
