The increase in the number of Coronavirus positive cases in the hotspot Chennai city has led to many residents fleeing to other parts of TN. This would increase the number of Coronavirus cases in the parts of TN like Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur etc.

It must be remembered that Chennai city has already contributed to an increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in other parts of TN due to the Koyambedu cluster and due to those returning from here. Around 6000 cars have left for Madurai and 5000 two wheelers have moved to delta districts in the last one week itself. This was as per the rough estimates done by some sources belonging to the TN government.

As per an officer belonging to the Secretariat, the people have used their two wheelers to travel to other parts of TN because e=passes are being rejected by the state without valid reasons. He added that it was illegal. He concluded that e-pass rejections have turned out to be an issue.

Information is many do not have jobs and business etc now and they are desperate to reach their native places. It must be taken into account that there were no adequate medical screening at the check posts and the number of cases in the districts has been increasing slowly.

In the last 2 months, 50% of daily wagers working in the hotels, transport and construction sectors etc have left Chennai city. It is now said that apart from the exodus increasing the number of Coronavirus positive cases in other parts of TN it would also increase the cases in other states of India.

More than 6lakhs migrant workers have left Chennai and have gone to other states in India. There are still many who throng Chennai Central railway station every day and are hoping to get trains for their native states.
