Beginning from Friday, 19th June 2020, Chennai and nearby districts are in total lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection.

The police department has been strictly implementing the lockdown in Chennai and its suburban areas. As a result, many busy roads in Chennai were sealed by the police for violating norms. The policemen were sporting face shields, masks and gloves and were busy manning all the stretches.

After the morning hours, arterial roads such as Anna Salai, GST Road and Poonamallee High Road had a deserted look. They also barricaded many flyovers in Chennai city.

At some important junctions in Anna Salai, Anna Nagar, Triplicane, Saidapet, Tambaram etc, drones with high level cameras and speakers were deployed.

The roads were monitored by the drones with cameras and from those places that had many people live streams were transmitted. By this, the police department was able to keep an eye on the people roaming in the roads.

There were some motorists who were seen wandering beyond 2km distance from their homes. The vehicles were seized by the police personnel. This made the motorists come back to their homes by walking.  It must be taken into account that on Friday police booked as many as 2436 cases for violating norms.
