Until the last few weeks the impact/intensity of the raging coronavirus spread was increasing each passing day only in the 4 districts (Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur) and subsequently, the State Government of Tamil Nadu took a decision to reimpose 100% lockdown in these 4 districts from 9th June to 30th June. However, over the last few days, it is noted that the impact/intensity of the raging coronavirus has started increasing in several other districts of the state!
As of yesterday, the number of affected persons crossed 1000 in the Tiruvannamalai district. It has crossed 500 in the districts of Villupuram and Thoothukkudi.
640 persons are affected in the Tirunelveli district. The infection has been increasing especially in the Madurai district.
So far, up to yesterday (21st June), 705 persons are infected in the Madurai district.
In this situation, it has been announced by the State Government of Tamil Nadu that 100% lockdown conditions will be imposed in Madurai district from 6.00 AM tomorrow (Tuesday, 23rd June) until 30th June.
Earlier, a decision was taken by the Madurai Traders’ Association meeting to reduce the open time of the shops. Accordingly, from 23rd June (Wednesday), shops in the Madurai district will be open from 6.00 AM to 2.00 PM only.
The notification released in this regard by the State Government of Tamil Nadu mentions:
- 100% lockdown is announced in the areas under the jurisdiction of Madurai Corporation, and the suburban rural areas of West Madurai, 100% Lockdown are imposed in the Thirupparankundram local areas.
- Hotels/restaurants will be allowed only to give parcels from 6.00 AM to 8.00 PM.
- The Tamil Nadu State government has allowed ordering of food though phone calls to get delivery.
- If the workers stay in the construction of the area itself, construction activities are permitted to go ahead.
- Ration shops will be open from 8.00 AM to 2.00 PM.
- Permission is given to sell vegetables and fruits in push-carts across streets from 6.00 AM to 1,00 PM.
- Citizens should go by walk to procure essential items. The public can visit the shops within 1km distance near their residences and procure the essential items.
- 100% lockdown without any relaxations would be imposed on 28th June (Sunday).
- Permission is given to operate Amma Canteens and Social Halls. Autos and Taxis are NOT permitted. Only medical emergency vehicles will be permitted to operate.
- Tea-shops are NOT permitted to be open!
100% lockdown in Madurai District will be until 30th June.
