Subsequently, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy has taken some more initiatives to prevent the spread of the raging coronavirus.
In a notification regarding this, the Chief Minister has mentioned:
“This AIADMK Government has initiated the activities of providing the required relief for the citizens with the utmost care during the present times of the raging coronavirus pandemic. The State Government has spared utmost efforts in containing/checking the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic.
As a preventive action against the spread, the central government imposed the central lockdown conditions from 25th March throughout the country under the National Disaster Management Act. Subsequently, the State government of Tamil Nadu has also been implementing the lockdown conditions.
Subsequently, giving due consideration to the present impact.intensity of the virus spread situation, and also giving utmost consideration of the lifeline of the citizens, the lockdown conditions have been imposed with certain relaxations until 30th June.
Again, giving due consideration of the very high impact/intensity of coronavirus spread in the 4 districts of Chennai, Chingleput, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur, stringent activities have been initiated to check/contain the virus spread. As such, under the NationalDisaster Management Act 2005, 100% lockdown conditions were imposed from 12.00 midnight on 19th June until 12.00 midnight on 30th June for 12 days in the areas of Chennai under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police, a few places in Thiruvallur district, Chingleput, and areas in Kanchipuram district under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Meto Police, 100% lockdown conditions were imposed. The resident ration-card holders of these areas were given Rs. 1000 per family as per an order released on 15th June.
In this scenario, giving consideration to the spreading status of the coronavirus in these regions, 100% lockdown conditions were imposed in Madurai district – areas under the jurisdiction of the Madurai City Corporation, Paravai Town Panchayat, Madurai East, Madurai West, and Thirupparankundram Circles covering all village Panchayat areas from 12.00 midnight on 24th June until 12.00 Midnight on 30th June for 7 days.
In order to provide some relief and reduce the hardships faced by the poorer sections of the society in these difficult times, I have ordered that Rs. 1000 must be given per family for each family ration card holder and while implementing this, I have ordered that that staff from the relevant departments must make house-to-house visits and give the cash of Rs. 1000/-.
Further, during the review meeting conducted on 24th June (Wednesday, yesterday), the district collectors observed that presently, there are difficulties in identifying persons with COVID-19 infection and the persons they were in contact with the zonal arrangement of vehicle transport is presently followed. As such, the collectors appealed that E-pass must be made mandatory again for movement from one district to another.
This appeal has been received favourably and from today (Thursday, 25th June) until 30th June, the present zonal arrangement for vehicular movement remains cancelled and instead, the conditions that no E-pass is required for travel within the district but E-pass will be mandatory from travel from one district to another.
During the above period, the public government transport will function within the district.
In this regard, I appeal to the public to extend their whole-hearted cooperation in the activities to prevent the spreading of the raging coronavirus and join with the government in these efforts.”
