The employees of the dairies have not been reporting for their work and this might affect the milk supply in certain parts of the Chennai city. The police have been stopping the employees from not having e-passes to travel inside the Chennai city in this ongoing lockdown.
As per Mr. Muthiah, AGM (sales), Thirumala Milk, for more than 6 days now the applications for e-passes have been pending. He added that the police have taken away atleast 10 two-wheelers of the employees from various companies. This has created fear on the minds of the employees and it has led to the employees not reporting for their work.
Mr. Krishna Subramanyam, AGM (sales and distribution) of Heritage expressed his views. He was unhappy regarding the rationale behind the seizure of the vehicles by the police. He spoke about how milk is exempted and how his employees have been supplying just milk only by taking orders and collecting cash. For the supply of milk, these functions must be carried out compulsorily.
It was later revealed by an employee of Aavin that due to the police restrictions the vehicle drivers a milk tub load men were unable to get back home or to report for the work.
