1,500 beds in Anna University for Corona treatment

The Chennai Corporation Commissioner K. Prakash said that 1,500 beds are facilitated to treat the COVID 19 patients at Anna University here on Friday after inspecting the Corona Care Center at the varsity.

At the press meet, he said that the city corporation is taking all precautionary steps to curb the disease and patronage the people in need. In the city, there are about 26 to 28 lakh people living in slums around 1,979 zones in Chennai. Infection awareness programs have been taken in these sectors with the aid from 92 social service groups based on MOUs signed with them.

He added that in the past month, 177 awareness programs have been undertaken that have resulted in the decline of infection numbers. The help of 2,300 social activists is remarkable in the disease prevention measure by creating awareness for the people.

He said that 5,500 tests have been taken by the corporation authorities a week back and so far 10,000 samples have been tested. There are almost 3,500 people found with the symptoms of COVID infections in a day. However, previously the street of the COVID infected would be shut but now just the house is quarantined.

Adding on about the corona care centers, the commission said that there are 54 centers with 17,500 beds facilitated for the treatment. Out of those, 4,500 beds are now utilized for the treatments. The corporation had arranged for 1,500 beds at Anna University which will be under the supervision of the Chennai Medical college doctors team.
