TN State food Minister: Free rice for rice-ration cardholders until November

The Tamil Nadu State Government Minister for Food and Distribution of consumption items Kamaraj has informed that free rice will be given to all the rice ration cardholders until November.

For those who have already bought the rice during the first 3 days of the month, it will be compensated in the next month.

The quantity of rice to be given until November will be equivalent as given during April, May, June, and July.

In a notification released by the State Food Minister regarding the above, it is mentioned:

“As the lockdown conditions with certain relaxations were extended until 31st July, as a mean to benefit the ration-card holders, as the essential grocery items including rice, sugar, etc., were given free during the months of April, May, and June, it has been ordered that these essential ration items of rice, sugar, cooking oil and Bengal gram to be given free for the month of July as well!

Even before this order, some ration cardholders have already bought these items paying for the same in July from the Fair Price Shops.

For these ration-card holders, the amount spent will be refunded in the next month. SMS will be sent to these ration-card holders regarding the refund arrangement. The data related to this operation will be entered into the data system.

The above ration-card holders can visit the Fair Price Shop in July itself and still receive the free rice and other items as order by the Tamil Nadu State Government.

In a similar vein, as the central government has sanctioned 5 kg additional rice per person, for all the rice-ration cardholders, free rice will be given as done darting the months of April, May, June, and July as ordered by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”
