The news that has come out now is comprehensive data on the deaths during Coronavirus pandemic must be sent by GCC by 15th of July 2020. This was according to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It must be taken into account that GCC has not released officially any comprehensive data regarding the total number of deaths during the time from February month to June month.
The consistency of the data on mortality due to Coronavirus infection is very important and the Centre has asked the GCC to compile correct data on all deaths from February to June plus on the other deaths in the corresponding time period in 2019.
The absence of a reliable single source of information has resulted in GCC and other local bodies in India unable to achieve any consistency in data regarding Covid-19.
The officials were of the opinion that reporting deaths due to Covid-19 was very difficult because of the absence of comprehensive data on those residents who died in their homes and those patients who were brought dead to the hospitals. In the Covid-19 mortality data, the data on the residents who died after testing positive have not been included properly.
Most of the data now regarding deaths due to Coronavirus infection has been obtained by the GCC from DMS and DME and these get the numbers from the government and private hospitals.
It was later pointed out by an officer that some deaths took place on the way to the hospitals or at homes and due to these reasons the data was incomplete.
