Earlier, as many as230 hospitals or institutions were considered as exclusive centres for the treatment of Coronavirus. The latest news is the state health department has removed 23 hospitals from the list of 230 hospitals and it included one hospital from Chennai.
Lack of infrastructure was the reason behind the removal of these 23 hospitals now. This was as per Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, health secretary.
To isolate the Coronavirus patients, it is necessary to have separate entry and exit points and these institutions did not have. In addition, many institutions did not have staff and sanitary workers also.
It is important to note that the TN government had listed 230 hospitals on the portal and information about ICU beds plus others like oxygen beds, general ward beds vacancies were provided. It must be taken into account that Krishnammal Memorial Hospital, NRT Hospital and TNKHNV Hospital in Theni were removed from the portal. Truth is there 3 hospitals had totally 60 beds for Coronavirus patients plus other facilities like 18 oxygen supported beds and23 ICU beds, 7 ventilators etc.
Hospitals belonging to districts like Kumbakonam, Karur, Hosur, Dharmapuri, Mayiladuthurai, Vellore, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari Cuddalore, Salem, Dindigul, Thanjavur and Pudukottai etc were also removed.
It was brought to light by Mr. Ajay Yadav, project director of TNHSP that all the listed hospitals had expressed interest. He made it clear that every private hospital must treat all the patients and cannot turn down any patient. For the sake of transparency and to make sure the patients don’t have to run from one hospital to another for treatment, the portal was updated every day.
The health secretary of TN Mr. J. Radhakrishnan expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how no action was taken against any of these private hospitals. He added that the dashboard has been corrected based on the willingness of the hospitals.
