It has been mentioned by many health experts that the community spread of Coronavirus infection hasn`t been there in Chennai and in the state of TN till now. The truth is there is still no clarity in this.

A state COVID Sero Survey has been planned by the health department of TN and the main purpose was to get a clarity regarding the Coronavirus infection and to ascertain the community spread of this infection.

Information is the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has joined hands with ICMR institutions like NIE and National Institute of Research in Tuberculosis etc for city specific sero study.

Antibody kits would be used to test atleast 25000 persons in TN by the state survey and this was according to Dr. T. Selvavinayagam, DPH. The antibody test refers to a blood test and it would reveal whether a person has been affected with the novel Coronavirus or not.

He explained about how the results from the survey would help the TN government plan policies for further management of Coronavirus infection. The survey study would be carried out soon.

Blood samples would be drawn from atleast 12,000 persons across the wards by GCC separately. It is known that Chennai district has been affected badly by Coronavirus infection. It is now brought out that the Chennai city samples would help the GCC to narrow down on micromanagement plans for Chennai.

In a study that was conducted in the month of May by ICMR in Chennai, Tiruvannamalai and Coimbatore districts, sero prevalence was between 1% and 2% of the population. Whether the Coronavirus infection has travelled deeply or not into the community would be known by the repeat study. This was according to some officials of GCC.

By doing antibody tests, it is possible to understand the proportion of the population that has been exposed to the infection.
