In the state of Tamil Nadu, the number of Coronavirus cases is inching towards 5000 per day.
At this juncture, the district collectors have been ordered by the senior officials handling COVID-19 cases to promote home-based quarantine for those who do not require hospitalization. Promoting telemedicine and home quarantine would be done by the district administrators.
It was pointed out by a senior official that home quarantine has been effective for the Coronavirus cases and many have recovered. He highlighted how zero surveillance by the Chennai Corporation would be completed and how the data would help the administrators to remodel the medical protocol for Coronavirus infection.
Patients with mild Coronavirus infections must not get themselves admitted to the hospitals for their treatment and home-based quarantine would be better for them.
According to a senior officer Mr. B. Chandramohan, all those testing Coronavirus positive must be subjected to doctor’s examination for further treatment. He hinted that home quarantine has been suggested to those who have access to tele-medicine.
He added that parameters like body temperature and oxygen saturation levels have been monitored 2 times per day for every patient and software provides these parameters for the doctors.
It was mentioned by Dr. P. Kuganantham, former Chennai health officer that for stable patient home quarantine would be the best solution. He explained about how those who have separate rooms in their houses with thermometers and pulse oxymeters etc could be sent for home quarantine. He was of the view that patients from congested localities must not be home quarantined.
