Centre to put up information kiosks

The Union Minister of State for the PMO V. Narayanaswamy has announced that the Central Government will put up information kiosks in association with the Department of Posts. Mr. Narayanswamy was at a function by the Postal Department at Puducherry.
‘The Centre has planned to set up 1.5 lakh information kiosks in the country in association with the Department of Posts to help in appraising people on various welfare schemes implemented by the government’, he said. ‘The government had already released `20,000 crore for such kiosks in the first phase. Around 18 per cent of the population is using post office for savings… The Central Government has extended Rs 25 crore for the renovation work… Further, the Central Government is ready to extend `20 crore for the construction of road over bridge at Arumparthpuram and also allocate funds for construction of flyovers at Indira Gandhi statue and Rajiv Gandhi statue.’
