Eco-friendly Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas would be used as fuel in the 900MW power plant that has been proposed to be set up by the CPGL or Chennai Power Generation Limited. It must be noted that this proposal has received Terms of Reference or ToR from an expert appraisal committee or EAC of the Union Environment Ministry.

In the year 1997, the proposal was initially conceptualized and it is now brought out that the proposal has undergone many changes. A detailed deliberation meeting was conducted by the committee on Tuesday, 28th July. The committee has laid out certain conditions while recommending the project for ToR.

For the purpose of building intake as well as outfall pipelines, desalination plants, and related facilities, the CPGL was asked to get recommendations of TN State Coastal Zone Management Authority or TNSCZMA.

For the project, 1.48 lakhs cubic meters of water would be needed and the water would be sourced from Bay of Bengal after the construction of onshore seawater intake pump house and pipeline. Whether the main plant area is falling within the CEZ or Coastal Regulation Zone area or not in accordance with the approved Coastal Zone Management Plans could be categorically verified by the TNSCZMA.
