Heat wave over the weekend

The forecast predicts more uncomfortable weather in Chennai. According to the Meteorological Department, a heat wave has hot northern Tamil Nadu. This wave is due to a build up of atmospheric pressure over the Indian peninsular region.

‘Surface winds are generally blowing in a northwesterly direction. The delayed onset of the sea breeze combined with a lack of cloud cover has caused the heat wave. It may be getting hot here. But we have to remember that the build-up of pressure over land is critical for the monsoon. A heat wave is usually declared when the temperature rises by 5 degrees Celsius above the normal. The sky will be partly cloudy. Uncomfortably hot days would prevail over north Tamil Nadu for the next two days. Chennai is expected to witness a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius’, said Deputy Director of the Chennai Meteorological Department YEA Raj.
