Due to recently allowed relaxations on the E-pass system, there has been a severe traffic jam in the Paranur Tollgate, which is the entrance to the Chennai Metro City.
Due to the impact/extent of the raging coronavirus pandemic which continued spreading despite various preventive measures taken by both the central and state governments with the imposition of lockdown, the E-pass system was introduced for travel from one district to another or travel to other states.
However, there were complaints about the e-pass system that there haven maloperations in the online release of e-pass and that it was a hardship to obtain the same.
Subsequently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy announced various relaxations on the system of e-pass. The relaxations have made effective from today (Monday, 17th August). In this situation, the tollgate at the entrance point to the Chennai Metro City, Chengalpattu Paranur, there has been a phenomenal increase in the number of vehicles from Chennai to other places.
This has caused a heavy traffic jam in that place. It is worth noting here that during the announcement regarding the relaxation of the e-pass procedure, it had been mentioned that once applying for e-pass with the Aadhar Number and Cell-phone number, e-pass will be issued immediately without issues.
