Increase in COVID cases in Chennai after e-pass relaxation, more cases expected

For the last few days, more than 1000 Coronavirus cases were being reported in Chennai is a known fact. On Wednesday, 19th August, TN recorded 5795 fresh Corona cases and this has taken the total cases to 355,449.Chennai had as many as 1186 Covid-19 cases. This has caught the attention of many.

The spike in the cases in Chennai has been due to the relaxation in the movement of the people across TN. It is now revealed that there would be more cases in the coming days as more number of people would be returning to Chennai.

On Wednesday, Coimbatore had as many as394 fresh cases and next was Tiruvallur with 393 cases and Chengalpet with 315 cases. More than 200 Covid-19 cases were reported on Wednesday from districts like Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Salem, Theni etc.

In TN, there were a total of 116 deaths and of these 84 were in government hospitals and 32 in private hospitals. As many as 16 persons have succumbed to this infection in Chennai and in Coimbatore yesterday. In recent times, more number of persons have been dying in Coimbatore due to this infection.

A total of 6123 persons have died in TN because of Covid-19 infection and of those 2517 persons belonged to Chennai city.

The recoveries outnumbered the fresh Covid-19 cases and as many as 6384 patients got discharged after getting cured from the infection. In TN, till now, 296,171 persons have been cured from this infection and the number of active Coronavirus cases stood at 53,155.
