Arrear exams for the college students cancelled by the TN government

The news is the government of Tamil Nadu has cancelled the arrear examinations of all the college students except the final year students.

It was revealed that the students have been asking for the cancellation of the arrear examinations plus there were recommendations from the expert panel also.

The Chief Minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami had stated that based on the demand from the students and recommendation from the expert panel all students except final year students who have paid fees for writing arrears are exempted from writing the arrear examinations. Based on the guidelines given by UGC and AICTE, marks for these examinations would be issued.

It is well known that except those students appearing in the terminal examinations, the TN government has promoted other students studying BA, BSc, MA, MSc, BE/B. Tech, B. Arch, ME/M. Tech, MCA and diploma courses for the next academic year.

The marks for these students have been awarded giving 70 percent weightage for internal marks and 30 percent weightage based on previous semester performances.

A review meeting took place between the vice-chancellors of the universities and state higher education department and in the meeting a decision about cancelling the arrear examinations was taken. The increase in the Coronavirus cases led to the cancellation of the arrear exams.
