Chennai District Collector: 31st August will be a holiday on account of Onam Festival!

The District Collector of Chennai, Seethalakshmi has announced that 31st August will be a local holiday for the Chennai District on account of the Onam Festival.

Onam is the most important festival for the adjacent state of Kerala and the Malayalees. In fact, Malayalees spread all over the world celebrate the festival of Onam in a grand manner irrespective of the religion or caste!

The 10 days period, starting from 22nd August, is considered as the Onam festival and celebrate!

In this situation, the Chennai District Collector has announced that a local holiday is declared on 31st August on account of the famous Onam festival.

In a notification released by the Chennai District Collector in this regard, it is mentioned:

“Monday, 31st August is declared as a local holiday for the Chennai District on account of the Onam festival as per the government order.

As per this local holiday declared, all the government offices in the Chennai district will function instead on Saturday, 12th September.

However, in order to attend emergent works, the Treasury Department and related sections will function with specific employees n 31st August.”

Earlier, the District Collector of Coimbatore, Rasamqani has declared a local holiday for the district on 31st August, due to Onam festival. He mentioned:” On account of the Onam Festival, a local holiday is declared on 31st August. Instead, 12th September will be considered as a working day in order for the compensation. On account of this local holiday, the department of the Treasury offices and Security offices will function with restricted employees. Thus, the Onam festival will be celebrated by the Coimbatore District Citizens with the observation of the important social distancing aspect.”
