The roads are empty as there are no MTC buses now. This situation would be changing soon.
Beginning from 1st September MTC bus services would resume and there would be many malls, hotels etc for the public.Information is that offices have been given permission to function with 100% staff strength. It is now said that the Chennai city would no longer be the city with most restrictions in India as just schools, colleges and parks would remain closed.
For ensuring the safety of the patrons, MTC authorities, malls and hotel management would take precautions. Mixtures of both technology as well as manual management would be used to prevent crowding and for maintaining social distancing in the MTC buses, malls, hotels and in the metro trains.
It is common knowledge that Chennai has been reporting over 1000 fresh Covid-19 cases daily and hence precautions would be taken for safety sake.
It is now brought out that the MTC would be operating its entire fleet of 3000 buses as a heavy crowd is expected on 1st September. Based on the crowds, more number of MTC buses would be there as the bus services would be increased in the subsequent days.
According to a senior official belonging to MTC, just 22 persons would be allowed to travel in the 44 seated buses and no one would be allowed to stand inside the buses. Social distancing would be maintained compulsorily inside the buses.
The passengers would be wearing facemasks. Point is the crew would be wearing face masks and gloves. The hands free sanitizer dispenser stand would be there at the entrance of every bus for the sake of the passengers. In the areas outside the Chennai corporation limits plus in places like Chengalpet, Arakkonam etc there would not be MTC buses services until further orders are received from the government.
