For the first time in 20 days, Chennai sees drop in the fresh COVID cases

The news that has emerged now is for the first time in 20 days the number of fresh Coronavirus cases has dropped below 1000 in the Chennai city. This has brought some relief for the GCC. 

It must be noted that on Thursday, 3rd September 2020, the number of fresh Coronavirus cases dropped to 968. Information is Cuddalore district as well as Coimbatore district reported 600 Covid-19 cases each.

The number of persons who have succumbed to this deadly infection in TN stands at 7608 and as many as 92 more deaths were recorded yesterday. In the state of TN, the number of active cases stood at 52,070 and as many as 12,059 active cases are in Chennai city alone.

On 3rd June 2020, Chennai city reported Coronavirus positive cases above 1000 for the very first time and n 30th June as many as 2393 cases were reported in a single day in Chennai. This is the highest number of Covid-19 cases reported in Chennai in a single day. 

The numbers went below 1000 between 7th August and 14th August and 14th August Chennai has been reporting 1000 to 1200 Covid-19 positive cases every day.

It is important to note that Chennai city neighbouring districts Chengalpet reported 378 cases and Tiruvallur reported 258 cases and Kancheepuram reported 150 cases and together these have reported 786 cases with 16 deaths. From 1247cases, the numbers rose to 1371 in the northern districts on Wednesday, 2nd September and the number of deaths have come down to 11 from 16.

On Thursday, the northern districts like Ranipet, Villupuram, Vellore, Thirvannamalai, Kallakurichi and Thirupattur etc together added 53% of new Covid-19 cases and 60% of deaths. There were 27189 active Covid-19 cases in the northern districts. Western districts such as Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and The Nilgiris reported 1264Covid-19 cases.

There were as many as 895 Coronavirus cases reported from 10 southern districts. Information is from central districts as many as 600 cases were reported. Southern districts like Tirunelveli, Dindigul and Virudhunagar had Covid-19 cases in three digits.  In TN, in the last 24 hours 80,864 people were tested for this infection.
