Children might spread COVID infection easily

It was mentioned by several researchers as well as by the medical experts that the children might be the silent carriers for Coronavirus infection.

As per some paediatricians, children might be asymptomatic despite a higher viral load of Coronavirus infection but they might transmit the infection to the elders. It is important to note that as on Tuesday the state of TN has recorded 20,877 Covid-19 cases among children up to the age of 12. Truth is the fatalities are lower in the children and infants.

In the ICH Egmore in Chennai, there are more than 400 asymptomatic cases of infection among infants admitted. Many newborns have tested positive but they remained stable and they have recovered completely from the infection.

Dr. Mohan Kumar, paediatrician from ICH Egmore, pointed out that the mortality rate in the kids is comparatively lower than the elders. Heart disorders, genetic issues etc have contributed to very few critical cases in the kids. He explained that the kids could spread the infection easily. It is believed that the risk of contagion is higher due to high viral load.

A research was conducted at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Mass General Hospital for Children. The study revealed that the children could play a significant part in the community spread of Coronavirus infection. The study was conducted on 192 children and the infected children showed higher viral load in their airways than the adults who were hospitalised in the ICU’s.

It was later brought out by consultant neonatologist and paediatrician at Motherhood Hospitals, Dr. Kalpana Bharani Kumar that the data from research and general observation suggested that the kids might remain asymptomatic inspite of having higher viral load. She threw light on the immune response in the adults that was higher and how the release of toxins affects the body immediately.

Truth here is the kids do not have higher amounts of toxins released and they remain asymptomatic.  The kids might be silent spreaders of the Coronavirus infection and must not be taken lightly. She concluded that it was important to take precautionary measures so that the kids would not spread the infection to others in their families.
