Some of the practical procedural problems/hardships encountered so far in the process for application for agricultural power connection and getting the power and utilising the same have been resolved now.

In order to facilitate the agriculturists to get power connection for agricultural power connections without undue delay, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Authority has carried out certain corrections in the clauses for power connections and sharing.

  • Simplification of the application forms and the conditions set for being prepared to receive power connection
  • In case, the well for which power connection is sought is a common one on a shared basis, and one of the sharers refuses to approve, it is sufficient if the applicant provides the separation statement legally valid. The application for power connection will be taken.
  • The property ownership of the land/well deed certificate issued by the Village Administrative Office is to be attached with the application, This single proof is sufficient. The applicant must own a minimum of half-an-acre land.
  • The applicant need not inform the readiness of having installed the pump-set, etc. while applying. Once the power providing equipment such as the transformer, cable, and wiring works and all other related works for giving power connections are completed, the applicant will be given 30 days time. The applicant can then submit the readiness within the above 30 days.
  • Power connection will be given within 3 days of informing readiness.
  • In case there are more than 1 well owned as per the given survey number or internal section of the survey number, if the applicant(s) have half-an-acre land each, each well will be given separate power connections.
  • In case there are multiple owners of the well, if they own half-an-acre land, they can avail separate power connection from the common well.
  • In case of the power connection as required for non-agricultural activity, separate permission will be given to another separate power connection.
  • Permission will be given to transfer the specified power connection to anywhere in Tamil Nadu.  There is no need to furnish the reason for the transfer.
  • In case the land is sold and only the well is available, permission will be given to transfer the power connection to another place.
  • The transfer expenses have to be borne by the applicant as per the shared duties deposit system.

Permission to avail procedure-change openers
  • For agricultural power connection, application can be made for the installation of the procedure-change openers with the related motor information alone.
  • Within 15 days of receiving the application, the concerned official will visit the place, do survey and check and then seal the procedure-change opener and permit operations.
  • In case permission is not obtained from the concerned owner within the above-specified 15 days, the power connection can still be utilized for emergency agricultural operations.
  • For the consumer, once the 1st permission is given for the use of the procedure-change opener,r, there is no need to apply separately for other related procedural changes.
