It has been 2 weeks since lockdown restrictions were lifted in the city and since then the roads have been full of activities just like it was before the lockdown. Truth is life in Chennai is slowly moving towards normalcy now.
The GCC has changed its plan to contain Coronavirus infection as the bus and train services have resumed once again in Chennai. Socialising is in the minds of the Chennaites now with the lockdown restrictions removed. The business of essential goods and services has been superb but the business of the non-essentials and plying autos, cabs etc haven’t been that profitable.
As per a manager of a retail outlet in Chennai shopping mall, even after the mall has been opened the footfall is very low. He added that every day, just 2 customers come to the malls. The MTC buses have very few commuters and the usual smiling faces and chattering etc has been missing now in the buses.
It is now said that when the government announces that there would not be further lockdowns in Chennai then more people would visit the malls. By this, sales would be improved in the festive season. This was according to Mr. Kumar Rajagpalan, CEO, retailers Association of India.
