Without knowing, there are many in Chennai who have been living with high blood sugar levels for longer periods!! Shocking right!!

It must be noted that the persons with family history of diabetes and those with a sedentary lifestyle must check for their diabetes. Fact is not many of us are aware of the presence of diabetes in us.

A study was conducted on 741 persons by the Chennai based diabetologists. It was found that there could be many residents in Chennai with diabetes issues without being diagnosed for a longer period. Point is these persons get detected only late and by this late detection the complications would increase.

It is shocking to mention here that nearly 45% of the 514 people who had approached 12 different clinics in south India for their tests voluntarily had significantly high blood sugar levels.

In an epidemiological survey or urban population, 26.4 pecent of 224 people were diagnosed with diabetes is known. This means a delayed diagnosis of the disease that is largely asymptomatic. There are many who live with this diabetes in Chennai without even knowing that they have this issue.

In the West, many were diagnosed with diabetes and their average age was 55. Now, the average age of those diagnosed with diabetes is around 45. More than one drug would be needed for the patients for their treatment when they get detected diabetes late. Information is that diabetes might progress faster and the chances of insulin injections at an early age would be more.
