On Friday evening, Chennai city had thunder showers in some places.
The meteorological department had predicted that there would be thunder showers for another 2 days in north coastal areas plus in the interior parts of TN.
The trough running along the interior parts of TN plus convective activity were cited as the reasons for the sudden thunder showers. This was as per the officials belonging to meteorological department.
It must be noted that yesterday places like Perambur, Kodungaiyur, Chembarambakkam and Kolapakkam received light rains. The weather station at Puzhal recorded 2cm rain and one cm rain was recorded at Ennore.
It has been brought to light by Mr. S. Ballachandran, deputy director general of meteorology that on the weekend a similar weather trend might be there. From 30th September, the rains would subside.
Light to moderate rains along with thunder and lightning would be there in few places in north coastal areas. On Saturday, one or two places such as Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam would get heavy rains. This was according to Mr. Balachandran.
It is now revealed that Chennai city would have light rains and the maximum temperatures would be close to 33 degrees Celsius till Saturday. As against the seasonal normal of 32cms, TN has recorded 38.8 cm of rains.
