Lockdown continues: More relaxations: Schools reopeing postponed again!

The Chief Minister of Tami Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, has announced that the earlier Government Order regarding the reopening of schools for higher classes (10th, 11th, & 12th Standards) has stopped for the time being.

The Chief Minister informed that this issue will be analyzed in detail again and a decision regarding permission to open schools will be taken.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had a video-conference from the Chief Secretariat, Chennai Metro City on Tuesday, 29th September) with al district collectors.

Subsequently, he had another conference analyzing the coronavirus pandemic situation with the medical experts’ team.

Following these 2 conferences, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu made the following important announcements:

The lockdown imposition as a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus gets completed on 30th September. However, with the existing relaxations and some new ones, the lockdown imposition is extended until 31st October.

Giving due consideration to the important aspect of the revival of economy and the complete details on the status of the coronavirus pandemic, additional relaxations are announced for all areas except the containment zones for all essential operations.

Accordingly, hotels and other eateries, tea-shops, etc., are allowed to function from 6.00 AM to 9.00 PM. Parcel services are allowed to continue until 10.00 PM.

The guidelines issued by the government on film shooting activities must be followed stringently. A maximum of 100 persons is allowed to gather for the film shoots. However, SPECTATORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED DURING THE SHOOTING!

Until now, permission had been granted for up to 50 domestic flights to and at the Chennai Airport. Henceforth, 100 domestic flights will be allowed to land in Chennai airport. The present permission for domestic flights to land in the Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Thoothukkudi, and Salem airports will continue.

The weekly trade fairs organised at the local Panchayat areas and the suburban areas are permitted with instructions to stringently follow the guidelines against the coronavirus pandemic spread.

Schools reopening: 
Earlier, a Government Order had been issued that the schools will reopen from 1st October for the higher classes of the 10th, 11th, and 12th Standards with the students to attend schools on their own preference. However, reconsidering this again with the coronavirus spread status and the safety and health of the students, this Government Order reregarding reopening of schools for the higher classes are withdrawn temporarily. This issue will be reviewed again thoroughly and a decision will be taken regarding the reopening of schools.

Continuing bans:
  • Academic Initiations including all schools, colleges, and research organisations.
  • International flights
  • Suburban electric train operations
  • Gathering of the crowd on religious, political, and entertainment avenues
  • Movie theatres, swimming pools, amusement/entertainment parks, large auditoriums, and conference halls
  • Beaches, zoological parks, museums, and tourism spots/resorts

It may be noted that Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam did not participate in the video-conference of the Chief Minister with all district collectors.

Appeal from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to the public for full cooperation:

The Chief Minister of Tami Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, has appealed to the public to extend their whole-hearted cooperation for the preventive activities against the spread of the raging coronavirus. A notification released by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in this regard on Tuesday, 29th September:

  • When the pubic make an outing, it is mandatory to wear facemasks.
  • The public/citizens must frequently wash their hands at their workplaces as well as residences.
  • The citizens must also strictly follow the wearing of face masks and keeping social distancing.
  • They must avoid venturing outside their residences for inconsequential purposes.
  • Only if the citizens follow the above strictly, it would facilitate controlling the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic!
