The State Government of Tamil Nadu has granted approval for the construction/widening of an 8-lane highway between Guduvanchery and Paranur.
Once this project gets completed, it is widely expected that the severe traffic congestion currently experienced at the entrance to the Chennai Metro City would get substantially reduced.
As the State Government of Tami Nadu has granted approval for widening the GST Road in the section up to Paranur located in Chingleput suburban area, the narrow Southern Entrance to the Chennai Metro City will now be taken up for widening as an 8-lane highway.
Presently, it is a 4-lane highway and now set to be doubled! Further, this will also lead to a substantial reduction in the traffic congestion in the National Highway beyond Tambaram and its south suburban areas.
The State Government of Tamil Nadu Department of Highways have now commenced the preparatory activities for the 8-lane expansion highway project and also commenced the discussion with TANGEDCO regarding the number of poles, etc for the transmission and distribution of power in the concerned location.
The widening of the highway is taken up covering a distance of 13 km from Guduvanchery to Paranur. At the same time, it is worth noting that the project of widening the 8-lane highway from Perungalathur to Guduvanchery is at the stage of nearing completion!
One Phase of the project – the high express highway from Perungalathur to Paranur – is presently only on paper! As such, the estimated cost for this project is about Rs. 250 Crores.
