The Coronavirus infection has begun to increase in Chennai city in the last few days. In this critical situation, the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has stopped quarantining the contacts of Covid-19 positive persons since 27th September. Not even a single person has been placed under quarantine now.
Ever since the Coronavirus outbreak began in Chennai in the month of March, as many as 811,524 persons who have been in contact with the infected persons have been placed under quarantine. This was brought to light by the home quarantine monitoring data released by GCC.
According to a field official it was clear that the civic body has been testing contacts if they showed any of the symptoms. Immediate contacts of the infected persons are being traced now. He mentioned that the GCC has stopped quarantining the contacts.
Important piece of information is that the GCC has quarantined more than 30.76 lakhs of residents since the outbreak and this was 35% of the total population of Chennai. Truth is that 5.98 lakhs of the family members of the infected persons were quarantined.
It was pointed out by an official belonging to GCC that more than 9.20lakhs were quarantined after giving their samples for testing. More than 5.89 lakhs were quarantined for travelling. After the medical experts deployed at the fever camps identified symptoms of Coronavirus infection, around 1.59lakh persons were placed under home quarantine.
Currently, as many as 179375 persons have been placed under quarantine for a time of 14 days. Truth is that none of them were contacts of those persons who had tested positive for Coronavirus infection.
It is worthy to note that as many as 10530 persons had given their samples at various testing labs run by the government. The home quarantine monitoring data revealed that 181 persons out of the total 10530 were untraceable.
