First Metro train arrives Chennai

The shores of Chennai saw the first four rake train for the Chennai Metro Rail on Friday. The rakes that are sealed have been shipped from Santos in Brazil. They will be transported to the depot on Monday. Officials from Chennai Metro Rail and Alstom oversaw the shifting of the rakes from the vessel to Namakkal Transport Carriers (NTC) modular hydraulic axles.

‘The rakes, each costing around Rs. 12 crore, would be carefully moved to the yard in Koyambedu, which is under construction after the payment of port charges that is likely on happen on Monday. NTC has a three-year contract with Chennai Metro Rail to transport metro rail rakes from the port to the yard… Nine trains would be imported from the Brazilian port of Santos, while the remaining, which are produced in Sri City, would also be delivered by NTC… All the nine trains are expected to be shipped into Chennai from Brazil by the end of this year’, said General Manager of NTC Mr. Suresh.
