The news is that the Higher Education Department of TN is working on the possibility of conducting the arrears examinations for the students if the verdict goes against the decision to scrap the arrears exam.
It is common knowledge that AICTE has disagreed with the TN government decision to cancel arrears examinations and the High Court of Madras has also expressed its concern regarding this issue.
Earlier, the TN government had cancelled the arrear exams for all the students except the final year students. It had asked the institutions to give marks under the formula where 70% weightage would be given for internal marks and the rest 30% for previous semester exams. It must not be forgotten that the decision to cancel the arrears was challenged in the Madras High Court.
As per the AICTE in its submission, the move to cancel arrears exams was against the guidelines of UGC. The HC also supported AICTE over this. It has been brought out by a senior official from the Higher Education Department that a committee has already started discussions in being prepared to conduct arrear exams if the HC quashes the GO.
He added that the panel members would also discuss conducting the arrear exams online or ask the students to appear at their colleges.
