In the recent syndicate meeting conducted by Chennai University, a detailed discussion was undertaken regarding awarding the minimum marks for the students studying in the colleges affiliated under Chennai University.
The reliable circles of Chennai University inform that based on the above discussions, activities have been initiated to obtain the list/details of how many students in different colleges have kept arrears.
Due to the lockdown imposition as a preventive action against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, there was a situation where the examinations for the students could not be conducted. Because of this, the State Government of Tamil Nadu announced that all the students who paid the fees for writing the examinations are deemed to have passed. It further announced that those students who had paid the fees for writing the arrears examinations were also deemed to have passed the arrears.
In this regard, Anna University sought the explanations in this regard from the All India Council for Technical Education. It was explained that the rules do not permit students with arrears as passed! Cases are pending in this regard in the court. In this situation, the universities have initiated activities as per the Tamil Nadu State Government Guidelines to accord the minimum marks to the arrears students except for the engineering students.
In this scenario, the syndicate meeting of the Chennai University, the guidelines and regulations have been formulated for according a pass to the students with arrears. A decision has also been taken during the syndicate meeting regarding according a pass to the students with arrears. Once approval is obtained for this from the syndicate members, an announcement will be made regarding marks to be accorded to the students with arrears.
Meanwhile, the reliable circles from the university inform that activities have been initiated to obtain all the details of the students with arrears.
Following the Chennai University initiative in this regard, other universities in Tamil Nadu State have also initiated activities to accord a pass to the students with arrears!
