As part of the second phase of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP), the TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) will strengthen and revamp its low tension distribution network in Chennai. ‘We have identified lands for all the substations. Work will be completed in nine months` time after the issue of work order… Of 120 transformers, we have got sanction to replace 50 in the first phase. Already we have replaced 20 such transformers and the remaining will be completed in three months. If 8 MVA transformers can handle 40 distribution transformers, 16 MVA ones can handle 100-120 distribution transformers and will help ensure fluctuation free power supply. We are replacing 1800 ring main unit transformers with compact transformers and installing 1500 new transformers to meet the growing load. We are hopeful of executing most of the works by next summer. If everything goes as per plan, we can ensure uninterrupted and stable supply of power next year’, said an official.
