A committee under the chairmanship of Anuj Aggarwal, Regional Executive Director (North) of the AAI (Airports Authority of India) has been formed to over see, execute and formulate the privatization of the Chennai Airport.
Says an AAI source, ‘The committee has been instructed to report directly to the secretary, civil aviation ministry, and not the Airports Authority of India (AAI). With pressure mounting from the ministry to privatise Chennai and Kolkata airports at the earliest to minimise the government’s financial burden, a committee has been formed with members from three AAI departments: commercial, engineering, finance, and a representative from the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) of India… While Chennai and Kolkata airport would be privatised in the first phase, 20 more airports in the country also come under the privatisation plan.’
