India has the highest number in terms of food wastage in the world.

According to a United Nations survey, India’s food wastage is 40 per cent and is estimated to be around Rs. 58000 crore! The information comes in the wake of another disturbing statistic – 850 million people in underdeveloped countries were underdeveloped.
Prasun Das, Research Director at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) brought these numbers to light at a conference held in Chennai. "The majority of the food loss in India is due to the bad post-harvest management and lack of infrastructure facilities. As opposed to China which has a grain storage capacity of 150 million tonnes, it is only 60 million tonnes in the country’, he said.
