With the recently formed cyclone Nivar in intense action and set to cross the coasts tomorrow (Wednesday, 25th November), it has been raining quite heavily in the Chembarambakkam Water Reservoir (one of the 5 major sources for Chennai Metro City’s drinking water requirements) and its water catchment areas since yesterday (Monday, 23rd November) night.
With this, the inflow of water to the Chembarambakkam Water reservoir has started increasing considerably. The height of this reservoir is 24’. The water level is now already over 21’! In this situation, with yesterday’s and today’s continuing rain, the level may fast cross 22’!
The State Government of Tamil Nadu Public Works Department personnel are closely monitoring the Chembarambakkam Reservoir. The officials have informed the public there is no need for any panic!
