On Wednesday, 2nd December 2020, arts and science and professional colleges reopened in TN after a long gap of more than 8 months for the research students and for the post graduate students. Truth is that in Chennai thin attendance was witnessed in many colleges. This has grabbed many eyeballs.

It must be taken into note that colleges in Chennai and in TN took precautionary measures and checked the body temperature of the students at the entrance. Hand sanitizers were provided to the students.

One of the highly popular colleges in Chennai is Ethiraj College. Principal of Ethiraj College in Chennai, S. Kothai, expressed her thoughts about the reopening of the college. She spoke about how after a long time students have come to the college campus and how they had meetings with their guides. She hinted that from 7th of December the college would be holding full classes for the UG as well as for the final year PG students.

Lack of transport was cited as the main reason for many students from far flung areas not attending classes yesterday. It was brought out by a principal belonging to a Chennai based government college that parents have sent letters mentioning about their non-willingness in sending their children to the colleges.

Less than 50% attendance was recorded among PG students and research scholars in the famous D.G. Vaishnava College in Chennai. The principal of this college Mr. Santhosh Babu was of the view that more students would come to the college from Monday onwards. He hinted about beginning with value education classes.

Chennai based Guru Nanak College principal, Mr. M.G. Raghunathan spoke about how inspite of reopening the college on Wednesday the students would not be forced to come to the college. The college would not be strict in the attendance of the students now. From the second week of December, the colleges are planning to have the online semester examinations. There are few principals who are of the view that it was not the right time for reopening the colleges as many students would be preparing for the exams now.
