Over the past 3 days, as many as7 incidents of electrocutions have been brought to light in Chennai city. This has raised serious concerns over Tanagedco`s monsoon preparedness work and safety protocols.
In Pallikaranai, a 13 year old boy was electrocuted when he came into contact with a live wire accidently. On Saturday morning, 2 workers were electrocuted when they were trying to clear the stagnant water at Pulianthope.
In the last 3 days, as many as persons have been electrocuted are known. It is revealed that the state government had paid solatium to the families of 58 persons who lost their lives due to the electrocutions across TN. There has been a steady rise in the number of electrocutions in TN. In the year 2016, 491 persons were electrocuted and in 2019 as many as 72 were electrocuted. This was as per the National Crime Record Bureau Statistics.
