As a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus, the lockdown was imposed throughout the country from end March when the pubic was NOT ALLOWED to visit pubic gathering spots such as entertainment parks and the beaches. The word-famous Chennai Marina Beach also remained closed for the public visit!

Meanwhile, while conducting an enquiry on a petition regarding Fishermen Welfare Association, the judges raised the question as to when the Chennai Marina Beach would be open for the public. The judges also warned that if the state government failed to open the Marina Beach, the High Court will order to reopen the same! Subsequently, the advocate representing the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) informed the Chennai High Court that the State Government of Tamil Nadu has planned to reopen the Marina Beach for the public from 14th December.

Following this, in an order released by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy on 30th November, he had informed: “Depending on the prevailing situation on the coronavirus pandemic spread and strictly following the guidelines to prevent the spread, the beaches including the Chennai Metro City Marina Beach would be open for the public from 14th December”.

In this scenario, after a gap of 8 months, the public is allowed to visit the beaches including the hugely popular Marina Beach from today (Monday, 14th December). As such, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) staff had cleaned the beach.

Pubic has been allowed to visit the |Marina Beach, Besant Nagar, Neelankarai, Thiruvanmiyur and the Mahabalipuram Temple beach-shore.

Subsequently, the Marina Beach has been livelier right from the early morning today (Monday, 14th December). A large number of people started visiting the Marina beach right from the early morning! The youth – boys & girls – started doing physical exercises!
