The climate in Chennai is dry now without rains. In the next 48 hours, Chennai would receive light to moderate rains. The weather experts have mentioned that delta and coastal districts of TN would receive heavy rains. There would also be thunder showers in many districts. It is well known that just recently Chennai had two cyclones named Niver and Burevi and these resulted in heavy rains in Chennai and its surrounding areas
Mr. N. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre spoke about how moderate rains or thunder showers are likely to occur in few places over coastal TN, Puducherry and in Karakal area
He added that on Tuesday, the interior places belonging to TN might get light to moderate rains or thunderstorms. Information is that heavy rains are expected over Thanjavur, Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai. Pudukottai, Karaikal over the next 2 days. Till 19th December, thunder showers are expected in the isolated parts of the state of TN.
It was later brought to light by a weather blogger Mr. Srikanth that the easterlies have started to move across the Bay of Bengal. He explained about how when the easterlies push in then the northerlies would be pushed up.
He concluded that the delta districts would get winds from the easterlies and the coastal districts would receive rains from the northerlies. In the next 48 hours, the sky condition would be generally cloudy and light to moderate rains are expected. The temperatures would be between 30 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius.
