The Minister for School Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, K. A. Sengottaiyan, informed that the half-yearly examination, regularly conducted before the last week of December every year, are cancelled this year.
With most of the academic institutions, essentially, all schools, remaining closed over the last 8 months as a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, the State Government of Tamil Nadu was constrained to announce the cancellation of the Public Examination for the 10th Standard students and the final annual examinations this year for the students of other classes.
As the reopening of schools is getting delayed in subsequent phases due to the prevailing status of the coronavirus spread, classes for the students are being conducted online as well as by telecast on Education TV.
In this scenario, the regular quarterly examinations, conducted in September/October every year were not conducted in this academic year (2020-21). However, some of the private schools conducted the quarterly examinations. Again, the half-yearly examinations, regularly conducted before the last week of December every year in the normal situation, are cancelled for all the government and government-aided schools are cancelled for this academic year (2020-21) as per the above recent announcement by the State Government of Tamil Nadu.
In this situation, the State Minister for School Education of the State Government of |Tamil Nadu, K. A. Sengottaiyan, had a session with the press reporters in Erode. He shared:
“The half-yearly examinations are cancelled this academic year for al the government and government-aided schools. If the private schools prefer to conduct the half-yearly examinations, they can conduct the same online.
The syllabus for the classes has been reduced – by 50% for the classes from the 1st Standard to the 9th Standard and by 35% for the 10th, 11th, and the 12th Standards.
As a precautionary measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, the schools have not been reopened so far in the state of Tamil Nadu. In this situation, online classes are being conducted as well as the classes are telecast through Education TV.”
