The Chennai residents are upset and unhappy now because of the hike in the price of LPG.
It must be noted that the residents would have to shell out an extra Rs 100 for their LPG cylinders and that is Rs 100 more than what they paid just 14 days back. Before the beginning of the month of December, the LPG price was at Rs 610 for the 14.2kg 3domestic gas cylinder and now it has increased to Rs 710.
The Chennai residents now feel that the hike in the price of LPG cylinder has come at a wrong time when the Coronavirus infection has been creating many issues. It was later pointed out by a resident belonging to Adambakkam in Chennai that the price was increased by Rs 50 on 3rd December and now in another 11 days the prices have been further increased by another Rs 50. This was not acceptable in the pandemic situation that is present now.
As per the secretary of the People Awareness Association, Mr. V. Rama Rao, it was clear that income of many middle class families is returning back to normal. He spoke about how the Central government should have suspended the automatic increase of the prices by the oil companies based on the international rates.
There were many residents who pointed out that even during UPA-2 the price did not exceed Rs 400. They wanted the government to supply 12 LPG cylinders per annum and scrap the DBT scheme.
It was later bought out by a famous political leader that the government’s moves were not helpful for the people as the public have been reeling under the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. He hinted that the government must reduce the price or else they might have to face serious consequences in the elections.
