The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officials informed that 500 e-bikes and next-generation bicycles would be introduced for the public facility.
The central government has been emphasising the implementation of systems avoiding the usage for vehicular transport. Accordingly, pans are aft t set up cycling pavements and pedestrian pavements n the roads in all major cities in the country!
As per the above plan, more than 50 cycle centres have been set up in the Chennai Metro City. 500 ordinary bicycles are kept in these cycle centres for public utility.
In a related plan, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has decided t t set up centres keeping e-bikes and the ‘next-generation’ bicycles through the company Smart Bike.
Smart Bike is set to introduce 500 e-bikes which operate on battery power and 500 next-generation cycles which have no chains in the Chennai Metro City. With this, it is reported that a total of 1500 cycles would be in daily use in the Chennai Metro City.
While the present rates will continue for the existing bicycles, a new rate would be fixed for the usage of the new e-bikes. To facilitate easy access for these facilities for the public, 150 cycle centres are proposed t be set up in the Chennai Metro City. All types of above cycles would be available in each cycle centre.”
