Release of Smart Card by Chennai Corporation

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is planning to release the latest devised Smart Card, which will facilitate payment procedures for the services rendered by the GCC, in the grand occasion of the most important festival f the Tamil People, the grand Pongal festival.
A senior official f the GCC explained in this regard:
The Greater Chennai Corporation, jointly with ICICI Bank, had decided in the year 2018 to design a smart card to the citizens which will facilitate payments due to electricity bills and drinking water bills.
Presently, this idea of the smart GCC card has been renewed to design it as a pre-paid debit card.
This smart debit card can be used in the restaurants, commercial establishments, etc.
It is worth mentioning at this point that a similar card, known as ‘Jan Mithra’ (meaning people’s friend), is already been given to citizens in Ahmadabad and has been in effective use. This was also designed jointly with ICICI Bank. So, bringing out a similar smart card by GCC would give it a special identity!”
